Empire Fighting Chance is proud to announce that we are one of the winners of the 2020 GSK IMPACT Award, presented by The King’s Fund.

Charities win for exceptional work in improving the welfare and health of communities in the UK and receive £30,000 and leadership expansion from experts.

“Empire Fighting Chance is a wonderful example of sport for change at its very best. We were particularly struck by the range of services it provides, offering a comprehensive support network for young people to overcome the challenges of poverty, poor housing and unemployment that extends far beyond non-contact boxing. It provides great mental health support and helps young people achieve their potential through education, training and employment, including partnering with local businesses to enable young people to enter the world of work.”

Charity CEO Martin Bisp said that the award “has given the entire team a huge boost, especially the coaches who work with some of the most vulnerable young people day in, day out.”

Empire Fighting Chance helps over around 5,000 young people a year, with each coach trained to a high level so that they can give psychological support.

“We were particularly struck by the range of services it provides, offering a comprehensive support network for young people that extends far beyond non-contact boxing to help people overcome the challenges of poverty, poor housing and unemployment,”

said Katie Pinnock, director of UK and Ireland Charitable Partnerships at GSK.
